From bird food
to feed technology.
Founded by Dr. Ercan Mevliyaoğulları in 2015, MEVLİ began by developing food for canaries and other cage birds. Our founder’s academic background in bird nutrition guided our earliest product work. We completed our first R&D project in 2016, establishing a starting point for the research that followed.
From 2017 to 2019, our focus broadened to egg-based bird foods and different protein sources. Alongside formulation, we studied the physical structure of the foods. We combined this work with the establishment of a pilot facility, creating an environment in which we could examine our formulations under production conditions. Pilot production became part of our experience in developing bird food.
During this period, our founder’s research also extended to dog food. His doctoral work from 2018 to 2022 examined waste bread as an alternative ingredient in dog food, including the relationship between baking, extrusion and product characteristics. This academic research added another dimension to our approach to nutrition and processing technology.
In 2021, we began a separate R&D project at MEVLİ to investigate the use of cafeteria leftovers in dog feed production. We completed this process development work, involving sequential wet milling and extrusion, in 2023. Research that had started with bird food now encompassed different food resources and animal species.
Alongside this research, we expanded our production activities in 2022 to include grinding, baking and extrusion. Ingredient selection, formulation and processing were now considered as parts of the same production process. Our early work in bird food had grown into broader experience in feed technology.
In 2024–2025, we applied this experience to the development of extruded feed for racing and show pigeons. Our journey, which began with canaries and cage birds, continued through products developed for pigeon nutrition.
Today, MEVLİ brings together research, feed technologies, production and import activities. Our professional bird nutrition brand, MERLIVO, continues this work with fresh-egg foods, extruded feeds and liquid supplements for canaries and pigeons.
